The Challenge
Re-mark 6.8 km of the UAQ coastal road with humidity-resistant thermoplastic, edge lines and pedestrian crossings. The existing cold-paint lines had degraded within 14 months due to coastal salt spray and humidity, and the client needed a longer-life system.
Our Solution
Specified a 3.5 mm hot-applied thermoplastic system with hydrocarbon resin modified for coastal-humidity resistance. Anti-skid aggregate was applied on 8 pedestrian crossings, with Type II glass beads on edge lines for night delineation along the dark coastal stretch.
Execution
Crews water-blasted ghost lines and salt contamination, then applied thermoplastic at 185°C. A total of 27 km of line was applied across 6.8 km of coastal road, with anti-skid surface on 8 raised pedestrian crossings and preformed thermoplastic hazard symbols on 12 coastal-curve sections.
