Dubai Sheikh Zayed Road Thermoplastic Re-Marking
Re-mark 14 km of Dubai's flagship Sheikh Zayed Road corridor across 6 lanes plus hard shoulder, upgrading reflectivity to RTA night-driving spec while keeping the highway open during daytime peak traffic. The existing lines had degraded after 5 years of heavy HGV and commuter traffic.
The Challenge
Re-mark 14 km of Dubai's flagship Sheikh Zayed Road corridor across 6 lanes plus hard shoulder, upgrading reflectivity to RTA night-driving spec while keeping the highway open during daytime peak traffic. The existing lines had degraded after 5 years of heavy HGV and commuter traffic.
Our Solution
Deployed two self-propelled thermoplastic applicators operating in night-shift windows between 12:00am and 5:00am, applying 3.0 mm hot thermoplastic with simultaneous glass-bead dispensing. All lane lines, edge lines, hatching and arrows were re-marked to RTA Standard Drawings.
Execution
Crews pre-marked with laser guidance, water-blasted ghost lines, and applied thermoplastic at 185°C. Reflectivity was tested every 500 m to R3 (≥300 mcd/m²/lx). A total of 88 km of line was applied across 56 night shifts, with daytime lanes kept fully open throughout.
