Abu Dhabi Medical City Hygienic Epoxy Floor
Install a hygienic, seamless, chemical-resistant floor across a 6,800 m² clinical and sterilisation facility in Abu Dhabi Medical City. The system had to withstand daily chemical disinfection, heavy equipment traffic and meet DoH infection-control standards, all while the adjacent clinical wing remained operational.
The Challenge
Install a hygienic, seamless, chemical-resistant floor across a 6,800 m² clinical and sterilisation facility in Abu Dhabi Medical City. The system had to withstand daily chemical disinfection, heavy equipment traffic and meet DoH infection-control standards, all while the adjacent clinical wing remained operational.
Our Solution
Specified a 3 mm self-levelling epoxy system with a novolac topcoat in sterilisation and soiled-utility zones, and a standard polyurethane topcoat in clinical corridors. Coved skirting to 100 mm was installed throughout for seamless wall-to-floor hygiene transitions, with antimicrobial additive in the topcoat.
Execution
Tested slab moisture (calcium-chloride test, all readings <3 lb/1000 ft²/24 hr), shot-blasted to CSP-4, applied epoxy primer, 3 mm self-levelling body coat, then topcoat with antimicrobial additive. Coved skirting was hand-applied using a 6 mm radius coving trowel. Work was phased over 4 weekend shutdowns.
