Re-mark 16 km of internal roads within Jubail Industrial City serving petrochemical plants, with heavy HGV traffic, dust accumulation and high ambient temperatures. The existing lines had been abraded by HGV traffic and degraded by UV exposure within 4 years, requiring a longer-life solution.
The Challenge
Re-mark 16 km of internal roads within Jubail Industrial City serving petrochemical plants, with heavy HGV traffic, dust accumulation and high ambient temperatures. The existing lines had been abraded by HGV traffic and degraded by UV exposure within 4 years, requiring a longer-life solution.
Our Solution
Specified a 4.0 mm hot-applied thermoplastic system (1 mm thicker than standard) with high-build Type II glass beads and added anti-skid aggregate on intersection approaches. Preformed thermoplastic hazard arrows and stop bars were used at plant-gate intersections to improve night-time delineation for HGV drivers.
Execution
Crews worked in 12-hour day shifts, water-blasting and re-profiling the surface before applying 4.0 mm thermoplastic at 190Β°C. A total of 64 km of line was applied across 16 km of road, with anti-skid aggregate broadcast on 6.4 km of intersection approaches and 28 hazard symbols installed at plant gates.
